Are dark circles a serious health issue? No, they don’t pose any threat, but a lot of people think that having dark circles under the eyes make them look older, tired and unhealthy. Obviously, this can have a huge impact on your appearance and so you want to get rid of them. There are a number of methods, both medically prescribed and natural, which can be quite effective in dark circles removal. Even though not all of these solutions are permanent, consistency and maintenance will help you in reducing them.

  • Lifestyle changes

You will need to make some lifestyle changes like getting more sleep, reducing sun exposure, elevating your head when sleeping, applying moisturizers regularly and using a cold compress every now and then. These can be quite effective in reducing dark circles.

  • Natural remedies

There are several natural remedies that can be used for treating dark circles. Thick slices of cucumbers can be placed on the eyes for 10 minutes twice a day. A mixture of Vitamin E and almond oil should be massaged under the eyes before going to bed. Two teabags should be soaked in warm water, refrigerated and then applied on the eyes for five minutes.

  • Medical solutions

There are also some medical treatments that can be used for dark circles removal. You can find skin-lightening creams that contain glycolic acid, kojic acid or hydroquinone. Chemical peels are also recommended for lightening the darker pigment under the eyes. Dermal fillers based on hyaluronic acid can also be used for filling up the volume loss that causes dark circles. There is also a surgical procedure called blepharoplasty, which is performed for removing fat from under the eyes. It reduces the shadow cast by your eyelids thereby reducing the appearance of dark circles under the eyes.
